We attended a swanky opening of a new hotel, the Indigo, last night. The wine they poured was fabulous, food was great ... but everyone was asking if the resurrection will be successful.
Fact is, the hotel was formerly a Holiday Inn, next to a public transit station. And, as “new” as you can make it with the Otto Club’s Bentleys and Porsches parked out front, hhmmmm, calling in 80s rockers The Fixx to play wasn’t exactly cutting-edge.

Did anyone recognize any of the songs other than Red Sky At Night and Saved by Zero?? Oh, have I mentioned that Twisted Sister’s lead singer was walking around? Talk about a throwback (though I have to admit he seemed to be in decent shape). Unfortunately, I hoped to see Blondie’s Deborah Harry or Joan Jett... who were either playing shy or had been added to the guest list without confirmation.
The kitchen in the hotel’s new steakhouse, Boxk 109, is designed to showcase celebrity “help” – recognize the guy in the Celtics green jersey/chef’s coat?

Yup, it’s JoJo White next to chef Evan Percoco (who was very friendly, even at the close of what had to be a crazy night).
Scorecard: pool area for lounging: 8-10 points, winelist (if you can afford it) 8 points; Hugh Hefner-style “models” showing rooms: 2 points for wearing clothing.
We’re interested in the restaurant when it opens on Friday, and hope the resurrection is for real, because the suburbs are starved for stylish (emphasis on tasteful – Vegas obviously doesn’t play well in Boston) destinations. But we don’t need to be reminded how long ago the 1980s were, and they can hold off on calling it Hotel Indigo Riverside... because there’s no river, just a train station by that name.
