Helloooo Skirt! Charlotte ladies!
Barack Obama will be on my campus, UNC Charlotte, tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. Doors open at 3 p.m., but after waiting for more than two hours the last time he came to town only to miss the whole thing, I highly recommend arriving early. Early being 1 p.m. or earlier.
He is going to speak on the recreation fields, near the Highway 29
entrance (look for new construction and a giant crane). The problem:
the campus parking lot closest to the field is going to be off limits,
according to campus police. So, follow the signs and take the 49er
trolley-looking shuttles. I am guessing parking will be available at
the shopping center on the opposite side of the highway. (See update, below!) I do not
recommend trying to park on campus, it is over-full on regular school
days; plus you either need a permit or to pay visitor fees.
The campaign and the school are calling this rally the “election eve” rally. Obama's appearance in North Carolina the day before the rally speaks to how important winning this once blood red state truly is to his campaign.
In voting news, the polling place on the edge of my neighborhood
had 2 – 3 hour lines every day this past week. That’s the way, NC:
speak up!
Hope to see you all at the rally Monday! I’m going to get in line immediately following my morning classes. Look for me... I’ll be sifting through Spanish flash cards and flipping through notebooks, studying for a week full of exams.
Update from BarackObama.com:
On-site parking is extremely limited. Free parking with shuttle service will be available at:
Verizon Wireless Arena
707 Pavilion Blvd.
Charlotte, NC
Shuttles will begin operating at 1:00 p.m.
