Houston author Gwen Zepeda is having a book party Friday, October 3 at 6 p.m. It will be at MECA (Multicultural Education and Counseling through the Arts) at 1900 Kane Street in Houston.
I bought this book for my kids a few months back and they have loved it. In English and Spanish, it’s translated by Gabriela Baeza Ventura and illustrated by April Ward. The illustrations are beautiful, large, and colorful. They seem to jump off the page and the kids are really drawn to them.
The story is a touching tale of a young Ana who wishes she was older like her sister Lidia, so she can get to spread the dough on the corn husks while they make tamales with their family. She starts thinking of all the things she will be able to do as she gets older. It’s a great story!
So if you’re in Houston and you have kids, even if you don’t have kids but you love children’s books, come by and check out Gwendolyn Zepeda at MECA.
If you don’t know much about MECA please browse their website and learn more about it. It’s a non-profit organization that gives back so much to the community. The director, Alice Valdez, is an amazing woman. A true wonder woman!
Gwendolyn Zepeda, writer and single mother of three boys, is a wonder woman in her own right!
