fyi: my bday list

Tuesday, September, 23, 2008

it’s nikki and my birthday this week on thursday, the 25th. i don’t know what she would like for her birthday (okay i would bet her top ten includes something cashmere from jcrew, a good night’s sleep, and a tahiti vacay)

but in case you were wondering, here is my top ten:

1. a pair of extreme platform patent stella mccartney heels as worn by mary kate olsen on the september issue of uk elle mag. i am not lying, i am serious. i would do dark deeds for these shoes. (you could throw in the navy burberry coat too)

2. my car, cleaned and detailed. it looks like i live in it, which i do not.

3. donations made to planned parenthood in sarah palin’s name. read elizabeth’s blog and then go here.

4. gigantic cocktail rings like this one:

5. a weekend in chicago with a pile ‘o cash (while wearing stella heels and cocktail ring).

6. opera length leather gloves in a vibrant color, preferably, a violet-plum. i have no image because i don’t believe they exist in the universe yet. prove me wrong!! here’s the ideal pair (in the wrong color) as seen at jcrew:

7. pretty much anything by jennifer behr. (shout out to aleigh for introducing me to her magical hair works)

(why does she look so sullen? you’re wearing jennifer behr, freak out!)

8. a macarthur genius grant, such as the one that charlestonian mary jackson won. $500,000 for SHOES! (i mean, genius-related things, yeah...)

9. a heart rate monitor. okay, i am a geek. but first and foremost, i am a geek who loathes breaking a sweat, and if i’m going to, i’d like to be sure i’m burning off at least one cupcake. i’ll probably just buy this for myself, that’s why it’s at the bottom of the list.

10. a new fragrance. like wine, flowers, and any foreign language, perfume is something i know a teeny bit about but wished i knew a whole hell of a lot more about. so i’d like someone to just find/make/create/blend me the perfect fragrance... nothing too cliche or sickly sweet, something fresh but not too light.

Oh! Margaret, I hope you get all that and more. I love the Stella shoes. Wow! Perfume is such a personal thing, that I hesitate to suggest my two favorites: Parfum d'ete by Kenzo and Eau D'Hadrien by Annick Goutal. I wear Eau D'Hadrien almost every, single day - all through the winter and summer, even though it's supposed to be a summer fragrance. . .supposed to invoke "summers in the Mediterranean." It *is* citrusy, but never harsh. It's clean, but never "cute." I love it. It's my understanding that it was originally a men's fragrance, but that women wore it so much that they changed the bottle and viola! Women's perfume. Anyway, it's just a suggestion. And even it it's not what you're looking for, I hope you find one that matches your personality!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
