“That can’t be my story. That’s only a start.
I’ll say that a zebra was pulling that cart!
And that is a story that no one can beat,
When I say that I saw it on Mulberry Street.”
Saturday, skirt! photographer Molly Harrell and I were having brunch at Café Strudel when a friend gave me a call: “I’m stuck in traffic. There’s a parade going by. Wait, there g
oes RuPaul!”
So Molly and I zipped across the Gervais Street bridge in her VW Bug, just in time to catch the end of the SC Pride Parade. People had hauled tables out from the restaurants and moved their lunches into the street to watch. A crowd spilled out of the Vista Starbucks to watch. What fun.
(Here’s one of Molly’s photos!)
Then Sunday, again driving from West Columbia, I came down Gervais Street. Same barriers, smaller crowd. RuPaul again? Another parade? Nope, a group of cyclists go whizzing by. A bike race!
“But when I tell him where I've been and what I think I've seen,
He looks at me and sternly says, "Your eyesight's much too keen.”

You're in Columbia? Wheee! I love it when I see Skirt bloggers from nearby.
I wish I could've the parade! OMG, if we've had a pride parade here in Charleston, I haven't seen it. I'd pay admission. . .just cuz I love RuPaul! (Takes me back to Supermodel days!)

ad campaign fiasco at least served one purpose in our little state: it inspired the people participating in this year's event. I think Molly may have a couple of photos, which I'll add when I get them.
