Sorry it took me so long to report in. We just got internet up today. We’re alive and well. We are fine. We rode out the storm and we survived. Unfortunately I can’t say the same for Galveston and the area. My heart goes out to all of those who lost their homes and loved ones.
We rode it out and we are fine. Yes it got ugly. We had some really bad wind and we lost quite a few branches in our neighborhood. There’s a huge branch hanging over into our yard. This branch is the biggest one and a part of a pine tree. If it comes down it will pull down the power lines to our house and possibly the pole next to our house. We’ve called Centerpoint Energy quite a few times so they will come to remove the branch before we have a bad situation. On a good note, we were only out of electricity from 3 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday after the storm.
My dad is still out of power and I need to call his renegade energy company. It’s one of those small companies my cousin talked him into a couple of years ago. Unfortunately now it’s going to cost him more because they aren’t fixing their customers’ power as fast as those who have Reliant. Goodness!
I’m back at work since yesterday. You have to do that when you work for a newspaper. We are busy putting out a newspaper each day, regardless of the situation around us. I will update more later. For some really awesome pictures of what is going on here go to www.chron.com.

Good to know you're well. What an ordeal.
My ex mother-in-law grew up in Galveston. Her father was a ship's captain, and he built their house with some kind of a prow-like facade facing the ocean. It wasn't the big hurricane of 1900, but it was some whopper early in the last century. Their house was the only house left standing as close to the ocean as they were.
