Cindy McCain the next Jackie O?

Saturday, September, 6, 2008

I know I should be focusing on the issues that everyone is standing for, and not for what they are wearing, but I swear this review of Cindy McCain’s outfit will lead to issues. Just hear me out.

Okay, there’s this buzz now that since Cindy’s outfit cost like 300,000 bucks that she is suddenly a trendsetter and fashion icon...and maybe the next Jackie O. I hope not. I’m not an heiresslike she is, but if you ever feel like throwing money my way, Cindy, I bet I could look that stunning, too. Although I am kind of a maverick (yep, I stole that term)  with a sewing machine, so maybe I’ll just rely on JoAnn’s fabrics and my stunning sense of design creation.

Speaking of Cindy being an heiress, I stumbled upon (okay, I did a little research) on John McCain’s ex-wife, Carol, and some interesting things came up, like...she used to be a swimsuit model, got into a disfiguring accident, and was dumped for beauty queen Cindy McCain, while John admits that he was running around on Carol during the time. I know family issues “happen” to everyone, but the difference I see is that this guy is preaching family values, and that seems hypocritical to me.  Kind of like Palin trusting her daughter to make a decision regarding her pregnancy (did she trust her daughter to make a decision, or did she tell her that she had to decide a certain way? ) but not believing the rest of American women should have the same choice.

Who will stand up for American women’s rights? I vote Jon Stewart.

Ugh! Cindy McCain - yes she is a fashion plate but as you said, heiresses are kind of like that. I see much more of Jackie O in Michelle Obama - more substance too. A smart woman like Michelle could be our next Hillary.

As I read your words, I thought about the fall from self-righteous pedestals. I am amazed at those who preach family values then slip or tumble or fall- especially from very public positions. It’s often the most conservative, finger pointing, better-than-thou individuals who have the dirtiest laundry. Why do it? The fall from grace is much further. I’d rather admit all my flaws and mark my kids’ savings for college, therapy or both- because I can’t get much further from perfect!
