So I keep hearing about this big ugly lady storm named Hanna kicking her way towards the Savannah/Hilton Head area – followed by some oaf named Ike and his mean sister Josephine. Suddenly phrases like “tracking cone” and “landfall predictability path” are whizzing around my head like roof shingles in, well, a Category 3 hurricane.
I’ve never been through a hurricane – I come from earthquake country, where people are blissfully ignorant of impending natural disasters. Good Lord, the suspense is killing me: Will Hanna hit us? Do I need to pack up the kids, the dog and my Rescue Remedy pastilles and head for higher ground? Will the battery on my laptop last long enough for me to meet my deadlines?
The Weather Nerd says Hanna’s destined for landfall in South Carolina as early as tomorrow night and even if Savannah doesn’t get a direct hit, I am just not ready...
anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Oh God, I'm right there with you. While I don't have kids or pets to worry about, I've been lucky enough to avoid hurricanes up until this point. I'm moving outdoor furniture into the garage, and battening down the hatches just in case. Hopefully I won't have to evacuate, but you never know!
A google search for Hurricane Prep brings up some decent info on what to do if you're staying. I've got water bottles in my freezer and I'm about to head out to pick up more batteries and some of those packs of tuna that come with the can, condiments, and bowl, none of it needing refrigerating.
Fingers crossed! The preparation is helping to lessen my fear, but it's hard when you've got big trees in your yard and live on a lake. ::laughs:: Good luck to you!
